Drawing

I began drawing around five or six years ago. If you enjoy drawing I will share what I have learned.

I prefer Sharpe colored ink pens. The ink from these pens will not spread over time. They are a little expensive , but they are well worth the investment. If ink spreads, your work is lost.

Purchase a plastic box that you can place your pens in because you will eventually collect many different colored pens, and the box is a convenient way of keeping them from getting misplaced.

Purchase a circle making ruler or transparent device made of plastic that will help you to form facial circles. A face is not exactly round, but the circle maker will assist you in the beginning by helping you to stay within the realm of a circular method.

Buy a cord of bright white printer paper. You may later want to purchase a case of it if you enjoy drawing. It is economical, looks very nice , and it is a very long lasting paper.

Make sure your paper is acid free. Acid free paper will not yellow over years of time. Sign your name and date your drawings if you wish.

Use a standard size sheet of paper. If you make mistakes when you draw , you can throw it away without costing you much expense.

Practice drawing faces. Practice drawing human shapes and figures. Do not worry about mistakes. You may have to draw an object many times before your satisfied with it.

Get a good smooth surface to draw on. Get a good chair to sit in. Keep some pencils handy and keep them sharp. There good to draw eyes and mouths and small items. You can erase these small items and draw them over and over.

Protect your back. Create a good posture while your drawing because drawing is a time consuming process.

Store your drawings in clear transparent sheet protectors that have holes in them so that your drawings can be stored in binders.

Buy your supplies from an office supply store. A case of paper will not cost much. A cord will not cost much either. Do not be intimidated by the idea of drawing. You can do it. It takes practice. You will learn very quickly. Practice drawing crows because there real easy. Draw a double half loop curving up the ends an you have a crow in flight.

Although I draw, I still have much to learn. You can learn from good drawing soft cover books that you will probably find easily in hobby shops. You can try charcoal pencils to use for drawing. Try drawing something very easy with a charcoal pencil and then wipe it with tissue paper and see the effect you will discover.

Spend time looking over drawings. Check art galleries on the Internet.

Purchase fine point and medium point colored pens.

Learn to allow your pen hand to relax to create turning flowing lines.

Stabilize your drawing fore arm so that your hand want shake in the beginning. Another technique in stabilizing your arm, and hand would require your holding your drawing arm wrist with your other hand. You should do whatever is necessary for you to draw a steady mark, or line , or ink, or pencil mark.

Try to draw things you think that you can not draw. Let your growing skills become your confidence.

Start out drawing fruit. Draw apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, pears and other easily formed fruit. Color them in and place green stems on there ends. Draw a peach. A peach looks like a circle with a mark in it.

Draw trees. There very easy. Practice drawing trees with spreading lines with lines connected to other lines to represent limbs. Draw grass. Practice drawing leaves and birds. Draw round objects. Draw an oval kind of circle in the base of your tree and it will look like knot hole for squirrels.

Try drawing with other mediums. You may want to try pastels. Pastels create rich colors with beautiful hues and tints , and when your colored figures are wiped with a soft clean cloth you will see the beauty you have created.

Draw a light blue sky with a light blue pastel and you will discover the beauty of your art. Remember when you were drawing pictures in elementary school how well you did.

Try drawing a basket and then add the fruit in it. Add colors to the fruit. Create a lovely picture of a flower basket. Draw a square basket first. Fill it in with a color. Add long lines sticking out of it to start your flowers. Attach leaves and build flowers. Color the flowers.

Sometimes you can get ideas from a simple child's coloring book. You can find birds and trees, flowers , pictures of ships, boats, pirates, hats, all kinds of shapes and figures. The simple ideas you gather from simple coloring books can help you to create a beautiful drawing or a lovely watercolor portrait.

As you progress in drawing you may wish to try sketching items. A sketch pad is a helpful tool. Once you realize that you can draw you will never stop drawing for your own pleasure.

I have been drawing and painting my entire life. Train yourself to use your hand freely with a brush. Try the side of an old barn. Paint signs. Drawing and painting can help you in business and in pleasure and save you a lot of money. I use to type resumes, papers for college students, type letters for cash. I advertised it all using my skills in drawing and from painting.

With one single board and a large art brush you can start a business. The first thing I ever painted was a Strawberry on the side of a stand my daddy built. I was five years old when I drew the berry and even added the green stem on top. I filled the center of the berry with black spots to represent seeds. Believe it or not our sales improved because people on our highway could see the big red berry a mile away. As I grew older I learned to paint the word "OPEN".

If your in business, drawing and painting can save you bucks ,and help in a lot of free advertisement. And you know how expensive advertisement can be. Paint a big fish and you have a fish market. Paint the word "Fruit", and you have a fruit stand. Paint the words Garage sale, and you may be able to pick up extra bucks.

Paint the words "Automobile Mechanic," and your earning good bucks as a mechanic. The ideas never end when you can draw or paint.

God Bless You and May God in Heaven Bring You Joy , Happiness and Prosperity.

And May Your Skies Be Blue, And God Bless You.

Dear Miss Ogans:Thank you very much for visiting and for your nice thoughts. What I really wanted to learn was how to blend colors together without flaws. I never mastered that yet. The better artists do very well doing that. Realism would have been nice. Anyhow I am glad that folks like the art. You are very nice and May God Bless You Dear Heart.

Leon you describe things in a lovely friendly way with a smile on your face. Your drawing spells out what you see and feel and that is what art is and Manet would say - keeping it real.

Dear debugs : Simply enjoy expressing your desires in your art, and in your drawings. Sometimes we need to also express ourselves without much discipline, and freely allow our minds to direct our brushes to do as they please. You could actually let your mind create a work of art in one minute. It is all in the curves, and in the lines. Abstract art can also be a wonderful start. You may use disciplines , or not in abstract art. Depends on what your creating.

Whatever pleases you is fine. Your goal should be to please yourself with your art, then everyone else will usually enjoy what we do. We become good critics in life. Television, movies, shows, reading, studies, literature, are all training courses for our critical good taste. In Miss America pageants, we are all pretty good about picking the next Miss America because good taste is quite common. Creativity is what you, yourself is made up of. God made you perfect, with all the atributes you will need. We only need to make use of them. I preach a lot.You are and artist now. Simply unleash your skills. GBY.

@stars439, was trying PAINT (windows) and it seems that I do better with REAL pencils and paints. I always loved drawing since I was a kid, but I always stick to trees, houses, mountains and lakes for some strange reason.. thank you for your reply. :)
