Ever Run Out Of Can Cat Food ?
Even though Joann and I have raised cats and dogs for our personal family pets all our lives, I will not claim to be and expert on what to feed animals.
However if you know how to cook chicken, and there is no can cat food in your house, this is what you can do.
This is what you can feed your cats until you can buy the can food or dry cat food again, if your out of cat food.
If you have ever purchased raw chicken on sale, you will know that you can buy it in ten pound plastic bags. You can sometimes buy really good chicken on sale for as little as forty nine cents a pound.
If you have the raw chicken in your freezer, frozen in small bags, and wrapped in plastic wrap, then all you have to do is to take a few pieces of your frozen chicken and put them in a microwaveable safe dish, and cover the raw chicken pieces with plastic wrap over the dish.
Do not put any salt or seasoning of any kind on the chicken. Microwave the chicken for a few minutes. Maybe five to ten minutes it may take to cook two pieces of chicken.
When the chicken is cooked your hungry cats are probably running all over the place. Now that you have cooked chicken, cool it under the faucet if your in a hurry to feed them. Place the cool chicken on a plate and take it all off the bones. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THEM CHICKEN WITH BONES. Place the cooked chicken in flat plastic plates. We use picnic plates that unfortunately have dividers, but they still work fine.
We decided to use light plastic plates. They are economical and very easy to wash. Every day I wash our cat dishes and provide fresh water for our cats. The plastic dishes never wear out. They are easy to round up, drop into the sink and wash.
Any time you wash any plates or any item, keep your strainer in your sink. Gather up food particles and dump them in the trash. After washing dishes, run hot water in your lines with dish soap in your sink. It helps cut the grease.
Here is a good idea for keeping dry cat food. Buy a few nice large square plastic containers with easy pop off lids for your hands. Set them up so they will fit on top of each other. They must be heavy enough and big enough so that cats will not be knocking them open or over. They keep your dry cat food dry and protected.
For fresh water for cats that like to play, keep a very heavy thick large bowl for them. Check their water daily. In the summer you can even drop ice cubes in their water because they like cold chilled water too when the weather is hot or warm.
Put the chicken in two plates if you have more than one cat. Your cats will love the chicken , and it is no more expensive than the can cat food.
I know what your thinking. Why not just cook them economical cooked chicken instead of spending money on canned cat food. Can cat food is made for cats. It has more vitamins and nutrition than only chicken. The chicken was and emergency meal for them until you can fly a Leer jet to your local dollar store to buy them more canned cat food.
When there is no canned cat food at your local store, sometimes cats will eat canned mackerel fish. It is economical. You can buy a large can of it usually for a dollar. For a treat I like to feed our cats Salmon in a can. They love to sink their sharp teeth in a nice big chunk of Salmon.
God Bless You.

Good tips Thank you.
Hi Stars 439,
I have used frozen chicken a time or two for the farm cats around here. I tried the can Mackerel for a treat, but I cannot stand the smell of it when I open the can.
The farm cats first beg for food, and then chase mice, depending on what's on the dinner menu :)
The only problem with feeding cats people-food is that they may not want to go back to cat food.

When I run out of cat food my cats catch mice and rats, but if that fails; I feed 'em rice and yeast. After the slim meal of rice the rats look mighty tasty, and the cats are out hunting.
