How I Deal With Small Bumps On My Cats
September 25, 2010 Friday
We have nine cats in our home. Constantly we have to take care of their health. I noticed during the summer , four of our cats developed a rash of small bumps on the top of their heads, behind their necks, under their necks, and on their backs.
I am not a veterinarian, but this problem with cats may require veterinary assistance if it gets out of hand.
For about a week or so I have been treating four of our cats with triple antibiotic medicine from a tube that Joann bought for four dollars. It is a small tube of antibiotic cream that is clear and looks like Vaseline.
The tube we have also helps reduce pain as well . It is for humans, but it works for our cats.
I recently noticed that the bumps may be going away. What I do is squeeze some of the ointment on my fingers and rub it on our cats, deep onto their skin where the bumps seem to be.
The medicine I am using is "Triple Antibiotic + Pain Relief " . Maximum strength. It is a First Aid Antibiotic / Pain relieving ointment.
Gray Fox, has a problem with the bumps. It has helped him I think.
I also treat our cats for fleas. Our cats are difficult to wash. They will not let us hold them for very long.
We treat our cats for fleas by using flea collars. I think the best collars are the ones that kill fleas, and flea eggs. We wait for our cats to sleep , and then we slip loose fitting collars around their necks. Follow your collar instructions , and then connect it to make a loose circle, then slip it around your cat's neck. When your cats are relaxed, you can more easily tighten them a little more. Always keep the collars loose. Flea collars usually have a safety feature so that if they are pulled, they normally come loose . If the bumps are flea eggs, you may want a veterinarian to examine your cat. Write down the date you place the collar on your cat, and save the information so that you will know when to replace it with a new one.
A fine tooth comb helps to remove particles from your cat's hair, but be careful , and do not comb your cats to long because they may not like it. If they like to be combed , then this is a good way to help them to manage their hair.
I would love to shampoo our cats, but our cats will never let us do it.
The antibiotic ointment may be working for our cats. Only time will tell. The rash seems to only be on four cats of the same family. All our other cats do not have the problem.
Fleas will lay eggs and cause problems for animals. They must be controlled are animals can become debilitated , or sick if infestations get out of hand.
I have sprayed our entire house, our floors, furniture, bed dings, everything very well. Our cats are not scratching very much anymore. Fighting fleas can be a never ending battle especially if some cats go in and out of our house.
Also be very careful with sprays. Definitely do not let sprays irritate your cats. Do not spray areas where your cats seem to enjoy rubbing themselves.
Not all cats have the same problems as ours. Animals may often have to be taken to Veterinarians, but I can not always afford to do that so I try to find ways to treat our animals when I can.
God Bless You.
