The Bottom Line Is SAVE MONEY !

The bottom line is SAVE MONEY because it does not grow on trees. Recipes are your gold mine . A small loaf of raisin bread was four dollars. A loaf of good quality bread was three dollars. Learn to make your own bread, or bake a cake, or make your own donuts.
A box of donuts was five dollars. My little girl, and my wife liked donuts. French donuts are delicious. Make them yourself easily. All you need to do is to sprinkle the confectioners sugar on them, and you have made the best donuts in the universe. I made so many donuts for my family, that they got tired of them. French Donut recipes, or beniets are in the Internet. I even have the recipe I think on one of my hubs.
Cooking is all about flavor. Learn to put flavor in your food, and you have the system licked. A simple box of rice with different herbs, or ingredients can easily cost you two dollars. Two dollars might not seem like much, but a family can eat meals easily three times a day. I have not figured it all out yet, but I can tell you now I am working on how to mix ingredients for different flavored rice mixes that will work well with different types of meat types. When I figure them out I will put them on hubs.
A simple bag of shredded lettuce may not seem like much in cost, but usually they run three dollars a bag.
My family likes to make sandwiches. Buy yourself a head of lettuce. Take your waved knife from your kitchen drawer, and cut up that whole head of lettuce into strips, and place it all in two convenient large light plastic transparent containers with lids. Place them in your refrigerator. You have enough lettuce to place into a hundred sandwiches.
I never buy meat unless it is on sale, or unless I absolutely must have it. Salami, and baloney. I am not crazy about either one, but I have ten packs of salami. ten packs of baloney, and a lot of frozen hot dogs. I freeze them. I bought it all on sale five for five dollars. The packs were two dollars, or more each. It is just there if someone needs it . I also give some of it to other people, or family members if their short of food. If I accumulate to much food , I give some of it to friends , and family members.
I try not to buy meat at real high prices. I am not going to morgage our home to buy a piece of meat .
I might buy ground beef. I will wait until it is on sale, and I will make sure it is of good quality. You just do not buy meat because it is on sale, especially meat. Make sure that meat is red, and is fresh, and of good quality because meat, and fish must be sold fresh, especially shrimp , or sea food. Fish is good for your health. Try to eat something with fish in it once in a while.
One day I saw some very large bags of tortilla chips on a great sale. It was a super large bag. When I opened it at home they tasted bland, flat, boring, and quite tasteless. In essence I got burned, got suckered into thinking I had something good. I placed them in the refrigerator in two clear large plastic containers. I ate them with ranch dressing. That was the only way they would taste right .Joann, and Becky were not interested in them under anycircumstances. I ate them to teach myself a lesson that I should never be too quick to jump at a deal that looks too good to be true because a lot of deals are not too good to be true.
By cooking meals yourself you usually save money. Also if you like to avoid a lot of preservatives, home cooking is a good idea. The price of beef meat has been increasing it seems , but if your family likes beef stew then make it yourself. A package of stew mix for delicious flavor is worth a million dollars. Buy yourself a small roast, and cut it into nice chunks. You could probably make two , or three pots of ste with it. Naturally place the chunks you do not need in a freezer bag in your freezer. You will need potatos, a bag of carrots, celery, and be sure and read the recipe on your stew package. The Internet is a gold mine for recipes.
Your refrigerator is also a great place to keep your bread fresher longer. Here is a tip if you only like slice bread, and do not want to bake bread , and do not want to pay a high price for it. Some cities like ours has discount bread locations. This mean that you can buy what is called day old bread, or rolls, or sweet breads at a lower price.
In actuality a lot of bread remains on shelves anyway, and it is sold as fresh bread. If your not careful you will buy a three dollar loaf of bread that is not fresh.
If you squeeze bread and it springs back fast it is not as fresh as it should be. Fresh bread sort of stays sqeezed, and actually will get out of shape more easily. I just crushed a loaf of bread going shopping. The cashier asked me if I wanted another loaf. I told the nice lady that the bread was fresh so I will keep it. Anyway I crushed it, and my parents taught me long ago to never waste food.
You can put many things in your refrigerator. They stay fresh longer. As for the day old bread from the discount store, just microwave it for a few seconds before you make your sandwich. A lot of well off people buy discount bread. It helps them to keep their money.
Oh , and I do not want to forget to tell you about picnic hams. They are not great deals. By the time you trim all the fat, and remove the bones from your ham, you want have much ham remaining, unless you make sure that you buy the right kind of ham. Ham is tricky because you can not see how nuch fat is in your picnic ham until you cut it all up to bag it , and freeze most of it. Some picnic hams are packed with a ton of fat. If you do buy one, buy it on sale, and actually the larger the ham, the more ham it may have. A small picnic ham will have more bone than ham. I bought a very large ham once, and it had a whole lot of ham in it. A ham bone can only be just so big, so a large ham will usually have more ham. Some hams you have to cook before you eat the ham. Do follow directions.
God Bless Everyone.

My wife saves about 50 buckks a week with coupons too. You might enjoy this HUB about money. http://hubpages.com/hub/Tiny-has-a-Question-about-
Everyone should practice saving money. It is always a good habit!
Money should not control you. It should be the other way around. And one thing which we can prove that we are in control is by limiting our expenses. A famous person once said,"At times like this, buy only the things that you need.".
Hi stars, it's amazing how much you can save on your food bill, my Nan taught me to be thrifty I think her generation was. Some brilliant money saving ideas here thank you.
I am sur eit is great help and advice to many people.
I understand your hub perfectly and it will be very hard one day when people have to learn to cut back but I am sure you and I have it! Another way to save on bread if it starts to get old is freeze it and when you have stuffing for pork chops, chicken or turkey you can thaw it (put it in fridge to thaw for better results, tear it in piece and toast in the oven til golden. I use to make home-made stuffing and I still do but I like to add a box of stove top I have found on sale $1 or under, and I cook giblets (or just neck bone) to make a good flavored broth, take meat out and use it or not later but cook onion, celery and 1/2 stick butter or margarine in the broth about twenty minutes, add crumbs (plus stuffing mix if you have one) mix until crumbs all moist not soppy but not too dry; then add to bird to bake. I think this as good as anyone could ever taste. If I don't have stove top (chicken is best) I add sage to the broth before crumbs and salt. I thought my mom made the best stuffing in the world but this is very close if not as good. If you have some left over put in a pan and bake it about the last twenty minutes before bird is done. Or the next day!
A most appropriate thought for these times Leon as we see the nation's leaders bickering over cutting spending and raising the debt limit.
Thank you for these excellent tips on how to save money on food. In the times we are in, this is needful advice. God Bless You!
