The Choking Sound

August 3, 2010 Tuesday. I was in a deep sleep. The room was somewhat still comfortable this morning just before 12:00 noon. It would warm up more later.

In my deep sleep sound filtered in. My mind consciously accepted the recognizable sound of coughing. Mental flashbacks, training and education, it was definitely choking sounds, and coughing. It came from Joann's voice.

So I suddenly awakened from the functionality of sleep to yell, "Joann! are you all right ?" I screamed out loud enough to get a response from the kitchen to the bedroom. "Yes," she said, and then I heard more coughing.

Again I yelled , "Joann! are you all right." "Yeah, "she said , and then I heard nothing, but the pause of silence, and then she did it again.

The coughing from Joann occurred another time and I yelled . " Joann, are you all right ?" She replied the third time, "Yes."

At that point I decided to get out of bed to limp my way into the kitchen. Joann was sitting down on her favorite table chair at the kitchen table. She looked all right.

I told Joann I was wondering if she needed help. I told her in a joke that I was ready to try that heimlich maneuver stuff.

I suppose if she would have been choking I would have had to eject French bread and God knows what else out of her throat.

The cats were all licking each other in a parade of team hygienics.

I could feel the temperatures rising in our mobile home. Our air conditioners both on high. Last night late I shopped and brought home the bacon.

I asked Joann if the cereal with the nuts in it made her choke. She said, "Yes".

Perfect, the box of delicious crunchy cereal with fruity flavors was on sale. I picked Joann up a box. Dumb me. First I buy the culprit to choke her to near death, and then I run  like gang busters to the kitchen to save her from doom.

Actually Joann chokes easily anyway so she has near death experiences like freckles on Cabage patch dolls. This is why she takes some kind of morning medicine to help her deal with heart burns and other issues of the throat.

Everything went fine. The family settled down for more snacking like we were horses in a hay barn. Our cats Gray Fox and Whiney patted Joann on her leg to remind her to share some morsels of baked ham, and then when they got some, they turned up their noses like they did not want it.

Joann said, " As useual they just want attention and are pains in the you know what."

Becky just enjoyed the show while sipping her tropical punch from a straw. She likes her little container of fruit flavored drink and juice with her ham sandwich.

I ate a couple salami sandwiches. The cats will not touch salami or baloney with a ten foot poll.

My right hand kind of feels like a Siberian tiger took a chunk out of it. Every day we have new and exotic pains. My fan is blowing warm air on me as I type.

I wish I had a cool swimming pool to dive in. I wanted to buy a pool once, but Joann said we should not. She was probably right. Right now it would probably be collecting leaves and scum ,and slime, like other stuff in the way of ideas that rarely ever pan out.

I asked Joann if I could buy another harmonica. She said, "Nope, you need more  clothes, and not any more junk in the house we can not afford."

Well that settled that, so I just walked over to the typing room where I am now. I turned on the ceiling fan to write this gorgeous hub.

I am not a doctor by a long shot, but you have to make those thrusts with your arms while you have your hands joined under a person's rib cage while yours tanding behind someone to help in a choking situation.

God Bless Everyone.

Our cats have become so dear to us, as we study their little behaviors. They are like little human beings without formal education, yet they have skills that are so dandy to see when they are frisky and run wild in the house at warp speed. Cats are quick. God Bless You. Thank you for the visits I enjoy.

Leon glad to see you were able to help and all is now back to normal in your house - well as normal as it can be with those non-salami eating cats!

Dear billyaustindillion : Thank you for visiting. I never under estimate the slightest things when another person coughs, or chokes, or is ill in even in small ways because you can never be quite sure a situation is under control. Take pneumonia for example, some people never know they have walking pneumonia until it can become dangerous. God Bless You and stay cool and keep yourself hydrated in the outdoors.
