A SUICIDE INTENDED BUSSINESS MAN , AND A 38 CALIBER SMITH AND WESSON REVOLVER.

I was a young deputy sheriff in the mobile enforcement division of the volunteers when I was riding shotgun with a friend who was my senior officer. We had a possible suicide case on our hands to look into.

My senior partner, and officer who was the unit driver received the radio call from our dispatcher. We were requested to respond to a possible suicide attempt that could take place in a popular well known hotel. It was the best hotel in town.

When we arrived at the location, the manager told us that a man had a revolver , and the manager asked us to please check into the situation right away.

My senior officer and I proceeded to the hotel room immediately where the armed man had checked in. When we arrived there, the door was open and we saw a man in a nice suit sitting down on his bed. Beside him was a blue steel Smith and Wesson revolver.

My partner and I were always good listeners so we asked the man if it would be alright if we could enter his room. The man told us it was O.K.

The presence of a revolver put my partner and I into a very cautious mode. Our intentions were to deal with the matter very slowly and very carefully. I kept my right hand near my holstered revolver, not in an obvious manner but close enough to draw my sidearm just in case the subject would decide to turn his hand gun toward us. In police work many types of scenarios enter the minds of police officers.

We decided to listen and to talk to the man. We did not want to alarm him so we calmly asked him if we could share some of our thoughts with him. He said that would be O.K.

As trained officers we definitely watched every move the man made as we listened carefully to every word he said , and studied his body language, and kept our eyes on his hand gun, and of his hand nearest to his revolver. Where a gun is involved there is always a possibility of other serious ,or unpleasant situations that could turn a situation into different types of scenarios.

The man told us that he wanted to kill himself. My partner then had important things to say to him as we hoped that the man would listen. My partner told the man there was no reason to destroy his life. My partner spoke to him about the good things in life that involve joy and satisfaction that often pass us by without notice, and then it was my turn to talk.

I studied everything about the man's movements, and words before speaking, and told him that if he killed himself he would more than likely destroy his mother and father. I said, "You are their son ,and you will forever be their baby no matter how much of and adult you may think you are. I know because I am a father of a child ."

I said ," Some people do not believe in God, but God exists. If you want to go to Heaven and someday be with the souls and people you love, you have to live your life, and you can not commit suicide ."

As police officers my partner and I were like brothers. We both had families, wives, and children, and life was a very important matter to us. We were not looking for excitement ,or thrills, or for violence . Our duties were clear to us, and we cared about people otherwise we would never have been wearing badges, and uniforms.

We had taken oaths to serve and protect human lives ,and property that people worked hard to have with their earnings. Life's smallest creatures like cats , or dogs , or all living things on this earth were things that we cherished.

I remember saying that , " life is a wonderful blessing from God no matter what condition it may be in. I have a darling little girl that will never ever walk. There were times when I felt like dying inside myself from mental agony , but I had and obligation to make sure that our sweet darling child would have a father to always provide, food, shelter , and protection for her, and love her, and I know you must have people in your life that depend on you that you love . Value every moment in life where you can hold dear, close to your heart your family that cares about your life. If you have a brother or a sister then remember that they probably love you very much , and that you are not alone. "

I said, " Bills, debts, lost money, a lost job, a lost savings, none of that matters as much as losing your life that God gave you. "

I said, " Today can be the beginning of the best part of your life, and find and seek the wonderful and positive good things that life has to offer. Take a trip, take a short vacation, share some wonderful moments with someone you love, and take your mind off yourself , and you will find that life will become wonderful for you. In life we often forget the beautiful world we live in. Spend special time enjoying nature because it is one of God's most precious gifts that we can all enjoy with little or no money at all."

I said," Think of beauty, think of the mountains, the abounding seas, the wonderful animals , and a world of creatures ,and of good films and beautiful music."

We made it our business as police officers to spend some quality time with one of our own. He was a human person, and we were not about to rush him, or quickly try to take away his revolver to arrest him. We knew that what we had to say had to somehow try to save his life, and to stay with him in his mind.

And it turned out in the end that he handed us his revolver , and came with us, and my partner and I were happy about the outcome of that day, and we thanked God that we were able to help someone stay alive. No one ever died from a suicide attempt on our watch. We were very good at what we did because we were true to our natures.

I was glad we were in the business of fighting crime ,and of protecting lives. A lot of people in our country save lives. They do it in many different ways.

May Your Skies Be Blue, And God Bless You.

stars,

You must be a special man, with a special family. I have a few family members in different law enforcement agencies, all believe in talk.

Dear Harvey: There was some things I loved in police work. The best part of it was giving tickets to speeders. I hoped we slowed a few down so they would not kill others, or themselves. I liked helping people. I think a lot of people like to do that. Most importantly, I loved my wife and child. Police work was a hobby compared to our thoughts concerning our crippled baby that has never walked. God Bless you.
